Java City, has a new avatar. What used to be known for its special bread, cakes and cookies with speciality items like muffins, walnut brownies, baklava, pita bread, cheese cake and rum and chocolate cake, has been transformed into a European style cafe. Many eateries in Bangalore lay claim to such a title, but Java City claims it is different and authentic. Probably for the first time in India, a cafe is stocked with different varieties of coffees from around the world. The cafe is situated at an old English-style house on Lavelle Road, with most of the seating on the open terrace.

Java City makes coffee the Italian way, serving all-time favourite Espresso, Machiatto and Cappuccino. And here's the difference Java City serves truly - exciting flavoured Cappuccinos, where the taste of coffee is enhanced by 100 per cent natural, world-renowned syrup from Monin, France, with flavours like almond, hazelnut, chocolate and frosted mint. Non-alcoholic flavours include Blue Curaco, Caribbean Rum and Irish Cream.

For those not so crazy about coffee, hot chocolate, plain or flavoured, on a cool evening will warm anybody's heart.

Try the hot chocolate flavoured with raspberry, frosted mint or almond. The iced tea here provides a cool, lemony tang.

Java City also has European sodas, in black currant, blueberry, peach, kiwi, strawberry and passion fruit flavours.

Java City also serves small meals: Quiches, salads and pizzas.

Try the homestyle whole wheat pizza with capsicum, mushrooms, baby corn, olives and dried tomato.

Perfect cups of coffee are made of this

Coffee beans must be freshly roasted and stored in an air-tight or vacuum sealed container. Keep away from light. moisture and oxygen. Freeze the beans if you plan to store them longer than three to four months. Don't ever use hot, boiling water. It destroys the delicate aroma of the coffee. The water must be a few degrees below boiling.

Coffee beans must be ground fresh before use. At home, use a small dry grinder in short bursts, without letting the coffee get hot. this kills certain components of the coffee's aroma, leaving behind the harsher tastes. It is best to refrigerate the grinds in a compact air tight container made of glass or some other neutral material.
